Peel and stick decals, not wallpaper

Every design here is a self-adhesive wall decal, not a wall covering. It arrives on a backing sheet you peel away, and the film goes onto dry paint with no paste, no water tray and no seams to trim. A decal is a shape on your wall rather than a new surface for it, so your existing paint stays the background.

Where decals work, and where they do not

Decals suit walls you want to lighten rather than transform: a child's room, a stairwell, the wall beside a study desk, a puja corner. Rangoli and mandala motifs, botanical trees and quiet boho arcs all read well against plain paint. They do not suit chalky distemper, putty that dusts under a thumb, or any wall with damp behind it.

Putting one up straight

Size is a choice rather than a measurement: designs come in options that run from a single motif up to a full-wall sticker, so settle the size first and the position second. Wipe the wall, let it dry, then tape the piece up and stand back, because placement is the one thing you cannot correct later. Work down from the top edge, releasing the backing slowly and smoothing outward with a plastic card.

Care and taking one down

A decal asks for almost nothing once it is up. Dust it with a dry cloth, and keep it clear of steam and splashing, which rules out a shower wall and the one beside a hob. To take it down, lift a corner and pull the film back on itself at a low angle, never straight out.

Peel and stick decals: common questions

Is a decal the same as peel and stick wallpaper?

No. Wallpaper covers the whole wall and is custom cut to your measurements, sold by the square foot from Rs 129 rather than in fixed rolls. A decal is one self-adhesive design that sits on the wall as it is, and it goes up dry in minutes.

Do decals damage paint when they come off?

On a sound, fully cured wall they usually lift away without taking paint, which is what makes them useful in a rented flat. The risk is old distemper or freshly painted plaster, where the surface is weaker than the film. Peel slowly from a corner, back on itself.

Can a decal go on a textured wall?

Light roller texture is usually fine. Deep putty work, sand finishes and grainy exterior texture are not, because the film has to touch the surface across its whole area. Run a palm over the wall: if you feel ridges catching, the decal will lift along those lines.

If the wall wants covering rather than decorating, made-to-order wallpaper is the better starting point.
