How 3D and embroidery wallpaper gets its depth
Nothing here is moulded or embossed. The relief is captured where light was already doing the work — the sheen along a satin stitch, the shadow a French knot sits in — then printed flat at full size. Run a palm across it and you feel a print; stand back and you stop being able to tell.
Rooms and light that suit it
Because the shadow is printed, it points one way for ever: note where daylight enters and pick a design whose shadows fall away from it. Grazing light — a window down a passage, a lamp above a headboard — suits these; flat overhead light kills them. Keep to one wall, since deep relief on two walls closes a 10 by 12 bedroom in.
Measuring, pricing and fitting
Wallpaper is sold by the square foot and cut to your wall, not in fixed rolls, from Rs 129 per square foot. Prints ship in 2 to 4 foot sections with a 0.5 to 1 inch overlap, varying with texture. The wall should be clean, smooth, oil-primed and dry before fitting. Installation is free over Rs 5,000 on walls up to 10 feet in major cities; ceilings, curves and taller walls may cost extra.
Caring for a printed relief
Our wallpaper is PVC-free and printed with non-toxic inks, and it takes a wipe with a barely damp cloth. Wipe rather than scrub: scrubbing burnishes the print, and burnishing shows sooner on a printed relief than on flat colour, because the shine you add competes with the shine doing the illusion. Catch marks near a headboard or switch early.
3D wallpaper: common questions
Is 3D wallpaper actually raised?
No, and that is the point. Moulded 3D panels arrive as fixed tiles you butt together; a printed relief is cut to your wall and joined on the pattern instead, and it leaves no ridges for dust to settle along.
What is embroidery wallpaper?
It is wall covering printed with the look of thread — satin stitch, running stitch, knotwork, shadow work — rendered so sheen and shadow read as stitching from a normal viewing distance. It carries the pattern of hand embroidery without the upkeep of real textile.
Does textured wallpaper make a small room look smaller?
It can, if you run it over more than one wall or choose too large a motif. Keep it to a single wall viewed from across the room, and in rooms under about ten feet across pick fine, close texture rather than deep relief.
The grid here still shows the wider wallpaper range rather than this material alone, so shop it on finish.
