About James Tissot

James Tissot (1836-1902) was a French painter known for his stylish pictures of fashionable Victorian society. He rendered its clothes, drawing rooms and river outings with great precision. In later life Tissot turned to faith, giving his final years to an extensive series of biblical illustrations.
