Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898) was an English artist closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelites. He drew his subjects from mythology and medieval legend, and painted them in a dreamlike, romantic style. Knights, saints and gods move through his canvases in a hushed, otherworldly light. His scenes rarely rush. Each holds a single, still moment and lets the viewer linger. That approach gave Burne-Jones a look that is still unmistakable today.
