About Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor who lived from 1884 to 1920 and worked in the Paris of the early twentieth century. He is instantly recognisable for his portraits and nudes, where faces and necks stretch into long, elegant curves. That look came from more than one place. Modigliani studied Renaissance painting, yet he was drawn just as strongly to African and Oceanic sculpture. Those two influences meet in the carved stillness of his figures.
